i don’t know if i’ve mentioned this before, but i’m sort of considering the idea of sending out my writing to a few (or more like one or two) publications this year. i sent out a short story to an (unnamed) Australian literary magazine earlier this year, and the editor e-mailed me back with a very nonchalant, ‘sorry, but I think I’ll pass on this one’ reply which was awful and okay and probably good for me in the long run.

i’ve been pretty lazy with writing this year, though. because i don’t study it anymore, i have sort of become complacent about finding time to sit down in a quiet corner and scribble down something, anything, just to be able to turn it into something bigger later. in an (my?) super naive alternate reality, i want to be all zadie smith and publish a book before i turn twenty, but i am in a very different situation to zadie (for starters, i don’t attend oxford), so i don’t know. i’m thinking baby steps at first is probably better, though. i don’t know if i have a novel in me, at least not yet.

so yes! sending out writing. putting myself out there! saying judge me! tell me i might be good! rejection letters! hey-we-like-you letters! anticipation and what-the-fuck and oh-my-god-no-way! let’s roll.
