Yeasayer (pronounced “yay-sayer”) takes place in the future, somewhere in the Middle East where citizens wear turquoise robes, live in crystal towers, and overindulge on Peter Gabriel albums.

Being innovative isn’t as much a quirk nowadays as much as a necessity.

Connie, interviewed for Dazed and Confused

I like this idea as I think it taps into something very important for my generation. Specifically, there is a greater emphasis on creating and implementing your own vision rather than working through others’ models. The internet, as I’ve often said before, is the great equalizer, allowing individuals or groups to come together to create in a manner never seen before. It is inherently DIY, allows ample opportunities and platforms to be used and manipulated with, and requires the user to think outside of the box to make to be heard among the glut.

So yeah, I also made some monumentally stupid decisions at age 22, but had none of the talent of Nathan Williams to excuse it.

People in NYC aren’t rude – they’re focused, individualistic and ambitious. They move insanely fast, and people used to a slower pace of life can interpret this as rude. But the truth is, we’re just people. In times of crisis we come together. If you’re lost ask anybody in the subway for directions and they’ll help. We hold doors, say excuse me and generally don’t degrade into street brawls over stealing cabs in the rain.

Do you belong in NYC? Take the test | Penelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist

so true.  EVERY SINGLE DAY someone chats with me in the neighborhood in a friendly way, smiles at my baby, holds doors.  it’s a friendly place, a great place to live, a ridiculously creative place.  not without it’s faults, and not for everyone, but it is not the rude, soulless place that people make it out to be.  don’t believe the hollywood hyperbole.
